Livestock minister stresses research for country’s dev

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Saturday laid importance on conducting research works for the overall development of the country.

He came up with his observation while addressing a workshop on ‘Inception, Progress and Review of Poultry Research and Development Strengthening Project’ being implemented by Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) at a city hotel as the chief guest.

“Research is essential for the development of the country,” minister Rezaul Karim said.

He also said that the livestock sector has an opportunity to play a huge role in the development and prosperity of the country.

“We have to go forward from the current situation of this sector and upgrade it more,” he said.

To strengthen the development of the poultry sector, proper research needs to be expanded, he added.

The scientists and researchers should make them better and competitive by utilizing their talents as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave important on research in every sector.

Mentioning that the premier is working hard to materialize the dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’ of the Father of the Nation, the minister said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had extraordinary foresight in the development of fisheries and livestock sector.”

Bangabandhu gave importance to the livestock sector in rebuilding war-torn Bangladesh, he said, adding that his vision was highly planned and scientific.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing his far-reaching plans, he continued.

The premier is giving importance to all projects in the sector including poultry research and development strengthening projects with a view to expanding the meat, milk and egg sectors, he said.

With Director General of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute Dr Md Abdul Jalil in the chair, the programme was attended, among others, by Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Raunak Mahmud as special guest.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md Taufiqul Arif and Director General of the Department of Livestock Dr Sheikh Azizur Rahman were present there as guests of honor.
