A Dhaka court on Friday placed four people on a three-day remand each in a case filed over seizure of fake stamp papers of Tk 20 crore.

The accused are: Abu Yousuf alias Parvez alias Rana, Md Atiar Rahman Sobuj, Md Nasir Uddin and Md Nurul Islam alias Sohel. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order as police produced the four before the court and seeking ten-day remand in the case filed with Motijheel Police Station.

Earlier, the Cyber and Special Crime Division under Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan of Police (DMP) arrested the four from Dhaka and Narayanganj.

DMP also seized a factory and recovered the large number of fake revenue stamps and court fee tickets in Matuail area under Jatrabari in the capital.

Addressing a press conference additional commissioner of DMP AKM Hafiz Akhtar said that they recovered the fake stamps and tickets from the ground of floor of a printing building house at Matuail college road.

“The gang was conducting the business of fake stamps and tickets using computers and color-print on a limited scale from 2017 to 2019. They expanded the illegal business back in 2019 by setting up a printing press at a hired house at Matuail,” the officer also said.

Hafiz also said that they faked those stamps so meticulously that laymen cannot differentiate the stamps from the original one.
