Daily deaths from coronavirus have crossed the 100 mark again in the country over the last 24 hours till Friday morning as the overall virus situation is deteriorating day by day.
During the period, 108 virus-related deaths, 2nd highest daily toll since the pandemic, were reported, taking the national death tally to 13,976 with a case fatality rate of 1.59 per cent.Record 112 deaths linked to the virus were registered in the country on April 19 last.
The country has also seen a jump in the daily positivity rate during the period although the number of cases has dropped slightly.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 5,869 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, bringing the caseload to 878,804.
The daily infection rate jumped to 21.22 per cent while the overall positivity rate stands at 13.60 per cent.
On Thursday, 6,058 cases and 81 deaths were registered in Bangladesh.
Of the 5,869 cases, 2,196 were reported in Dhaka division, including Dhaka city (1,539) while 165 in Mymensingh, 703 in Chattogram, 871 in Rajshahi, 336 in Rangpur, 1,322 in Khulna, 121 in Barishal and 155 in Sylhet division.Among the 108 new deaths, 25 were logged in Dhaka division, 23 in Chattogram, 16 in Rajshahi, 27 in Khulna, three in Sylhet, 10 in Rangpur and four in Mymensingh division.
Some 2,776 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 797,559. The recovery rate is now 90.76 per cent.
A total of 27,653 samples, out of 28,247 collected, were tested at 554 labs in the country during the period. With this, 6,463,119 samples have so far been tested across the country.
