Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury made PIB chairman

Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury has been appointed as chairman of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), an autonomous body that provides training for journalists and carries out research on mass media and journalism in the country.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued a gazette notification on June 22 in this regard.

As per the notification, the new PIB Management Board will act for the next two years with immediate effect.

Prior to joining the Daily Sun, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury served as the Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.

He was also a commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission.

In his long journalistic career, he worked for different national and international media outlets, including Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Bangladesh Observer, Daily News (now defunct), The Independent, Desh TV, Reuters and Bdnews24.com.

The other members of the 15-member PIB Management Board include representatives from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Public Administration Ministry, Finance Division and Secondary and Higher Education Division, Principal Information Officer of Press Information Department (PID), Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, acting Editor of the Daily Samakal Mustafiz Shafi, Editor-in-Chief of Bangladesh Post Sharif Shahabuddin, Chief Editor of DBC News Monjurul Islam, Treasurer of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Deep Azad, BFUJ member Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, President of Jatiya Press Club Farida Yasmin and Editor of the Daily Desh Bortoman Nasir Uddin Chowdhury while the PIB director general is the member secretary.
