5 teen gang members held in Mugda

Police in a special anti-teen gang drive have arrested five members of two listed teenage gangs from Mugda in the capital. 

A team of Mugda Police Station nabbed Mohammad Jadu, Mohammad Robin and Nayan, members of ‘Chand-Jadu Group’ and Mohammad Hira and Mohammad Ripon, members of ‘Bandage Group, on Tuesday.

Mohammad Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner (Motijheel Crime Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), briefed reporters on the matter at the DMP media centre on Wednesday.

He said the arrestees and their cohorts taking drugs used to parade around streets in Modinabagh, Wasa Road, Manda and other parts to create panic among residents.

Members of the groups were locked in conflicts over establishing supremacy in the areas, he said. They also committed cyber crimes, the DC said, adding that they teased young girls on roads.  

They were also involved in mugging, theft and other kinds of crimes, he continued.

The arrestees were wanted for various complaints lodged with Motijheel and Mugda police stations.

Two cases were filed against the five arrested teenagers with Mugda Police Station on Tuesday.
