Omi’s nine associates arrested

Nine associates of Dhaka Boat Club member Tuhin Siddique Omi have been arrested for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.

The Criminal Investi-gation Department (CID) of police arrested them from the capital and its adjoining areas on Monday.

The arrested were identified as Jasim Uddin, 36, Salauddin, 35, Rakibul Islam Rana, 34, Mohammad Musa, 26, Golap Hossain Bulbul, 34, Jakir Hossain, 34, Nazmul, 25, Mohammad Alam, 35, and Shajahan Sarkar, 43.

Sheikh Mohammad Omar Faruque, additional DIG of the CID, briefed reporters at the CID headquarters in the capital on Tuesday.

The law enforcers seized 395 passports, 22 computer hard disks, some land deeds, credit cards, blank stamps and some other things from the possession.

On June 17, one Shahin Alam filed a case against Ami and his associates with Dakkhinkhan Police Station on charges of human trafficking.

The CID officer said that they arrested them in the case.

Ami with the help of the latest arrestees trafficked several hundred fortune-seekers abroad in the name of giving them good jobs, he said, adding that Ami earned huge money by human trafficking.

Many victims are now in miserable conditions in different countries while Ami and his associates are leading a life of luxury in Bangladesh.

On June 14, Ami along with four others was arrested by police on charges of attempting to violate and kill film actress Pori Moni in Dhaka Boat Club at Birulia in Savar.

Ami is the owner of Ayat Arafat Travels Tours Services and Singapore Training Centre.
