The coronavirus situation continued to deteriorate in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions amid a gradual rise in both deaths and infections from the virus across the country.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 76 more Covid-19 patients died and 4,846 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday with a spike in daily positivity rate.The daily case tally was highest in 69 days as the country recorded 5,185 positive cases on April 14.
On Monday, the country registered 78 virus-related deaths and 4,636 new cases.
With this, the national death toll from the virus has reached 13,702 with a case fatality rate of 1.59 per cent while the caseload jumped to 861,150.
The daily infection rate has risen to 19.36 per cent from Monday’s 19.27 per cent while the overall positivity rate stands at 13.50 per cent.
The DGHS data said the number of both deaths and infections from the virus has been on a rise in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
Of the 4,846 cases, 1,967 were reported in Dhaka division, including Dhaka city (1,496) while 144 in Mymensingh, 532 in Chattogram, 763 in Rajshahi, 258 in Rangpur, 998 in Khulna, 71 in Barishal and 113 in Sylhet division. Of the 76 deaths, 14 were registered in Dhaka while 10 in Chattogram, 14 in Rajshahi, 27 in Khulna, two in Barishal, three in Sylhet and six in Rangpur division while no death of Covid-19 patient was reported in Mymensingh division in the last 24 hours.Some 2,903 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 788,385. The recovery rate stands at 91.55 percent.
A total of 25,028 samples, out of 25,338 collected, were tested at 528 labs in the country during the period. With this, 6,376,819 samples have so far been tested across the country.
