Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had been carrying out falsehood on mega projects.

“Now, they (BNP) who do not have courage and capability to undertake a single mega project during their rule, are unleashing falsehood over mega projects. They are carrying out an evil attempt in a planned manner,” he said. Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing at a press briefing on contemporary issues in his secretariat office in the capital.

The minister came up with the remark as the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government had taken the mega projects as money making machine. Mentioning that BNP’s target is to ruin the image of the country through continuous falsifying, Quader said that this is nothing but jealousy and vengeance of a failed opposition.

“The BNP is falsifying on mega projects in a planned manner to cover up their failures,” he said.

“They turned the country to a haven of graft during their regime but now they are searching for graft due to their jealousy. But people do not forget that the country was stigmatized for being a world champion in corruption again and again,” he added.

Having the mega-projects in the tenure of present government, Quader said, it is very usual to be saddened for those who institutionalized corruption in the country and embezzled public money in the name of “Hawa Bhaban”. Mentioning the government’s stern stance against corruption, he said even AL men involved in graft, irregularities and wrong doings are not spared.

On the contrary, he said, BNP did not take any action against the corrupt people and it recognized itself as a party of self-declared corrupt ones by abolishing the clause of disqualification of corrupt persons from its constitution.
