Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday alleged that BNP and its allies continue to spread lies as it does not see the country’s development.
“The newspapers all over the world are reporting that Bangladesh, once a borrower, now lends money to other countries, but it doesn’t come to BNP’s notice,” he said at a programme marking the handover of documents among beneficiaries of Prime Minister’s housing scheme for the homeless families under Ashrayan Project at Betagi Bahalpur in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram.Hasan, also the Awami League (AL) joint general secretary, said all the achievements of Bangladesh were made under the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her party.
“Everyone is praising the government, but BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is saying the opposite. His speech about the country’s 50 years of achievements seems to be his delirium due to his age,” he said.
The AL spokesperson requested the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), an organisation of BNP-supported doctors, to check the mental health of Mirza Fakhrul.
“We have recently lent $200 million to Sri Lanka. President of the United States, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the German President and Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen commended the achievements of Bangladesh, but the BNP and its allies cannot praise it,” he added.
He said that the number of poor people has come down to 20 per cent from 41 per cent.
“Bangladesh has become a food surplus country and graduated to middle-income country from the least developed country,” he said.Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution of houses on two decimals of land free of cost under the second phase of Ashrayan-2 Project virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.
A total of 175 homeless families in Rangunia got houses in two phases and some more houses are being constructed under the upazila.
