82 more die, 3,641 cases detected

Bangladesh continued to see a surge in the number of daily deaths from coronavirus with 82 reported over the last 24 hours till Sunday morning, up by 15 from Saturday’s 67.

With this, the national death tally has risen to 13,548. The case fatality rate remains at 1.59 per cent.

The daily death toll is also highest in 52 days as the country reported 88 deaths on April 29 last.

Meanwhile, 3,641 new infections were registered over the 24-hour period, raising the caseload to 851,668.

Although the number of cases saw a rise from Saturday, the daily positivity rate fell to 16.38 per cent from 18.02 per cent a day earlier. The overall infection rate stands at 13.46 per cent. Khulna division recorded the country’s highest deaths from Covid-19 for the second consecutive day with 32 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), some 2,509 more patients recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 782,655 with a recovery rate of 91.90 per cent.

A total of 22,231 samples, out of 22,262 collected, were tested at 528 labs in the country during the period. With this, 6,327,734 samples have so far been tested across the country.
