The National University (NU) authorities on Wednesday took a decision to provide conditional promotion to its first year students of 2019-20 academic year into the second year without taking examination due to coronavirus situation, said a press release.

NU said: “It was not possible to hold examination due to Covid-19 pandemic as the students, who have filled the form to participate in the Hon’s first year examination-2020, have been allowed for taking part in the 2nd year classes through conditional promotion.”

As per the condition, the first year students, who got the conditional promotion, will continue second year classes and they will have to sit for the first year final examinations after improvement of the pandemic situation.

If any student does not take part in exam or fails in the exam which will be held after improvement of the situation, the conditional promotion will be cancelled.

A total of 4.67 lakh students including 2.97 lakh regular students had filled up form to sit in first year final exam in 2020. Of the students, now 3,16,676 will get the conditional promotion to the second year.

The students of the first year have been waiting for their first year final examinations since October last year. But the examinations have been postponed due to the rising trend of Covid-19 pandemic infection.

Meanwhile, the NU authorities are also thinking of promoting the second and third year students taking online viva-voce or through assignment evaluation. But they are yet to decide in this regard.

All the educational institutes remained closed since March 17 last year due to the covid-19 pandemic in the country.
