CHATTOGRAM: Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) revealed an incident of enlisting 55,310 persons including Rohingyas in the voter list illegally through some missing laptops of the Election Commission (EC).
After investigation in this connection, ACC Chattogram Integrated Office-2 Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Sharif Uddin filed a case accusing four persons on Wednesday.The accused in the case include former Chattogram District Election Officer and incumbent EC Secretariat Director Khorshed Alam, Ramu Upazila Election Officer Mahfuzul Islam, Office Assistant Rasel Barua and Technical Expert Mostafa Faruk.
The plaintiff DAD Sharif in the case alleged that a total of 55,310 persons were made voters illegally using some laptops including a missing one in between 2015 and 2019.
It will take time to ascertain the actual number of people made voter illegally using the laptops, said the plaintiff.
He alleged that accused Mostafa Faruk took a laptop and some other items to the office of Mirsarai Upazila Election Officer in 2015 for updating the voter list.
Later, those were sent back to the office of Chattogram Regional Election Officer. The then Office Assistant Mahfuzur Rahman received those and the laptop was also used at different upazilas later.
But, last location of the laptop couldn’t be identified by the concerned election officials. Mahfuz and Rasel didn’t inform the high officials about missing of the laptop while Khorshed Alam also didn’t take any step to find it out again.Though general diaries and cases were filed in connection with missing of some laptops, no action was taken against the laptop of the Chattogram office.
The missing laptop was also used with others for enlisting the Rohingyas and fake voters in the voter list.
Besides, a committee was formed heading Khorshed for probing into the incident of getting smart card by Rohingya Robber Nuru who was killed in a gunfight. Khorshed avoided the issue of missing laptop to save him and other staff during the investigation.
Besides, another case was also filed accusing seven persons including two EC employees and two Rohingyas for enlisting a Rohingya couple into the voter list illegally.
Assistant Director Subhas Chandra Dutta of the Integrated Office-2 filed the case accusing EC Office Assistant Joynal Abedin, Nur Ahmad, former Data Entry Operator Noim Uddin, Obaidullah, Shamsur Rahman, Rohingya Faiz Ullah and his wife Mahmuda Khatun.
The accused in cooperation with each other made the Rohingya couple voter illegally, plaintiff alleged in the case.
