Woman, her 2 children found dead in Sylhet

A woman and her two children have been found dead at their house at Binnakandi village in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district with their throats slit.

The woman’s husband has also been found in a critically injured condition.

The deceased were identified as Alima Begum, 30, and her son Mizan, 10, and daughter Tanisha, 3.

Alima’s husband Hifzur Rahman was now undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The bodies were also sent to the hospital for autopsy.

Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station, said there were deep wounds in the heads and throats of the victims. “We assumed that the incident took place sometime on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.”

He said neighbours in the morning heard groaning from inside the house with its door open.

When they entered the house, they found the bodies of Alima and her two children and Hifzur wounded, the OC said, adding that police rushed in on information, recovered the bodies and rescued the injured.

No case was filed till filing of this report around 8pm, he said, adding that they started investigation. “We’re searching for the motive behind the murder and the identities of the killers,” he added.

Just two days ago, another woman, her minor son and alleged lover were shot to death by her husband in Kushtia.

On Monday, assistant sub-inspector of police Soumen Kumar Roy opened fire on Asma Khatun, her seven-year-old son Robin and alleged lover Shakil Hossain in the district town, killing them on the spot.
