A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed realtor and former president of Uttara Club Ltd Nasir U Mahmood and his associate Tuhin Siddique Omi on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

It also put three other accused -- Lipi Akter, Sumi Akter and Nazma Ameen Bristy -- on a three-day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesi passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of police Inspector Udoy Kumar Mondol, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for custodial interrogation.

In the remand petition, the IO said they the accused need to be interrogated to find out the source of drugs recovered from them.

Opposing the remand prayers, defence lawyers submitted two separate petitions seeking bail for their clients. But the court rejected the petitions after hearing.

The five accused were arrested on Monday after Dhallywood actress Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, filed a case with Savar Model Police Station accusing six people, including Nasir, of attempting to rape and murder her.

During the arrest made from a house in Uttara Sector-1, law enforcers also recovered local and foreign liquor and 1,000 Yaba pills from their possession.

Later, Manik Kumar Sikder, a sub-inspector of DB Gulshan zonal team, filed a case with Airport Police Station against the five arrestees under the Narcotics Control Act.

Earlier in the day, the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Kamrun Nahar fixed July 8 for the police to submit the probe report in the case filed by Pori Moni.

Meanwhile, the actress was called to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital on Tuesday afternoon for interrogation over her allegation of attempted rape and murder.

“It’s a regular process to know the facts from the plaintiff of a case,” said a DB official.   He also said, “Sometimes all the details aren’t mentioned in the FIR. That’s why we need to talk to the victim and the plaintiff to know the details of the incident.”

On Monday morning, Pori Moni filed the case accusing Nasir, also a presidium member of Jatiya Party (JP), Omi and four unnamed people of attempting to rape and murder her at Dhaka Boat Club at Birulia in Savar in the early hours of June 9.

On Sunday night, the actress made the same allegation in a press conference at her Banani residence in the capital.
