Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Sunday said election is not the one and only reason behind the spread of Covid-19 infections.
“We are also attaching importance to coronavirus pandemic. Elections won’t be held in the areas where the infection rate would be high. Election is not the only reason for spreading the infection. It has already been proven,” he said. The CEC made the statement while speaking at a view exchange meeting on the upcoming Union Parishad elections in Madaripur.
He said, “The rate of corona infection is high in Rajshahi, despite the fact that no election is being held there. There was no election in the Indian state where the infection rate is highest. Election makes no impact on Covid-19 infection rate.”
The CEC exchanged view with Deputy Commissioner (DC), local administration and police department of Madaripur.
The elections in 19 UPs of the district are scheduled to be held on June 21.
DC Dr Rahima Khatun presided over the meeting while Joint Secretary of the EC Forhad Ahmed Khan, regional election official Mostofa Faruk and Madaripur Police Super Golam Mostafa Rasel were also present.
