Vaccination stressed to maintain Bangladesh’s competitiveness

Budget should focus on vaccinating maximum people as early as possible to maintain Bangladesh’s economic competitiveness after the pandemic, speakers at a webinar observed on Sunday.

It is necessary to accelerate vaccinating to normalise all the business sectors, otherwise the export- import will not rebound to the level of pre Covid-19 pandemic period, they said.

They also put importance to the quality implementation of the budget than the size of a fiscal budget to bring reflection of change in employment and poverty eradication.

They came up with the remark in the webinar titled ‘reflections on the Budget 2021-22’ jointly organised by Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF), Research Policy Integration for Development (RAPID) and The Asia Foundation (TAF).

Planning Minister MA Mannan was present in the webinar as the chief guest. President of FBCCI Md Jashim Uddin and president of BGMEA Faruque Hassan joined at discussion as the special guests.

Chairman of RAPID Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque and Country Representative of The Asia Foundation kazi Faisal Bin Seraj attended the webinar as discussants.

Executive Director of RAPID Dr Abu Eusuf has placed the Keynote paper in the webinar on the topic. ERF President Sharmeen Rinvy chaired in the event while ERF General Secretary S M Rashidul Islam moderated it.
