The government has extended the ongoing closure of all educational institutions across the country until June 30 due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.

The closure of all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions along with Ebtedayi and Qawmi Madrasas has been extended until June 30, said a press release from the education ministry on Saturday.

The latest decision has been taken considering health and safety of students, teachers, staff and guardians, as coronavirus infection is on rising trend, it said.

The ongoing online academic activities will continue and students and guardians are urged to follow the guidelines during the closure, it said. Earlier, the education ministry said on May 26 that all secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions may reopen on June 13 if the corona situation improves in the country.

All educational institutions in the country have remained closed for 15 months since 17 March last year, bringing uncertainty to 40 million students from primary to tertiary levels.

The government annulled Junior School Certificate (JSC), Junior Dakhil Certificate (Dakhil) and HSC examinations last year due to the coronavirus situation in the country.

Neither was the HSC exams held in 2020. The school students were awarded auto-promotion without any final exams.
