Bangladesh are hoping against hope to get their injured midfielder Mashuk Mia Zoni fit ahead of their last group match of FIFA, AFC joint qualifiers against Oman as they kept him with the national team in Doha, Qatar.

Zoni sustained a leg injury during Bangladesh’s last Group E match against India on June 7 and Bangladesh Football Federation initially ruled him out from the last qualifying match against Oman, scheduled to be held at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.

However, with skipper Jamal Bhuyan, left-back Rahmat Mia and midfielder Biplu Ahmed receiving suspensions for the last match and midfielder Sohel Rana returning home after getting an arm injury, Bangladesh are trying heart and soul to get the service of experienced Zoni in their last game.

“We didn't send Zoni back to Dhaka. We’ve kept him with the team and are trying to recover him from the injury ahead of the match against Oman. Our key midfielders will not take part due to card issues so we are trying to get him fit,” Bangladesh team manager Iqbal Hossain said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh national team will resume their training session today at Qatar University Ground after a daybreak.
