Police arrested 12 Rohingyas, who fled the Bashan Char Rohingya Camp in Hatiya of Noakhali on Thursday night for going to Cox’s Bazar, from Companiganj in Noakhali on Friday.
Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of Companiganj Police Station, confirmed it, said police arrested 12 Rohingyas, including three women and six children, from Charalahi Dakkhinghat at around 10:00am.He said that they would be sent to Noakhali Judicial Court and the court would decide about them.
Police said that they lived at cluster No. 24 in Bashan Char Camp. They in association with some brokers were going to Cox’s Bazar by a trawler on Thursday night.
But the brokers got them down at the Charalahi Dakkhinghat on Friday morning. Later, a local man suspected them as Rohingyas hearing their language and informed the police of the matter.
When contacted, Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bashan Char Police Station, said that besides the arrested 12 Rohingyas, some other Rohingyas fled from the Bashan Char Camp on Thursday.
They were trying to arrest them, he said.
