After getting a promise of a good job, the poor teenage girl left her residence in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district with a couple for Dhaka about four months ago.
But little did she know that her long-cherished dream to overcome poverty by getting a job would nip in the bud as the couple -- Jakir Hossain, 35, and Rehana Begum, 22 -- were members of a women trafficking gang. After bringing her to Savar, the couple confined her to a room of their residence and forced her to have sex with several men for days after days. The ill-fated girl, 18, has become pregnant over the last two months.
On a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion-4 (Mirpur camp) conducted a raid on house No. 55, road No. 1/1A at Borodeshi Paschimpara in Savar and rescued the victim on Thursday afternoon.
They also arrested Rehana in this connection.
Major Mohammad Kamrul Sohen, company commander of Mirpur Camp under the RAB-4, disclosed the matter to the Daily Sun on Friday.
He said the victim, a resident of Satkania, got acquainted with the couple in her grandfather’s house.
The RAB official said they promised to give her a job abroad and managed to take her to their rented house in Savar. They first forced her to sex with several men at their residence and later at Green Residential Hotel at Amin Bazar with a threat of terrible consequences, he said. Kamrul said the couple was the members of a women trafficking gang that used to traffic young girls to India for prostitution after they were taken from their houses with a promise of good jobs.
Replying to a query as to whether the couple forced any other girl to have sex with men in their residence or hotels, he said the arrested woman did not divulge any information in this regard, but the phone call list of the arrestee proved that she and her husband did so.
The elite force is now trying to arrest Jakir, son of Abu Taher of Joksin Bazar in Laxmipur Sadar upazila, the official said.
A case was filed against Jakir and Rehana with Savar Model Police Station under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act.
