Today is the fourth Friday of the holy month of Shawal. To a Muslim, the importance of Holy Friday in this short worldly life is wider. And the word Jumu'ah is Arabic. It means to come together, to be united, to be in line. Since the specific day of the week is Friday, adult believer-Muslims gather at the same place at a certain time to perform this prayer in congregation instead of Zuhr (Zohar) prayer of that day. This prayer is called "Jumu'ah prayer". Although the time is the same, there are some regular differences between Zohar and Jumu'ah prayers, and Jumu'ah is the day of the weekly Eid. It is also the best day of the week. This day has a lot of importance and significance in Islam.
The instruction of the Holy Qur'an is to stop trading as soon as Jumu'ah is called, and remember Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) described the great virtues of this day. He also gave instructions for different periods. Friday is the first day of the year. The Prophet (peace be upon him) left Makkah and went to Madinah. The day of the Prophet's arrival in Madinah was Ya'omul Aruba (Friday). On that day he went to the valley of the tribe of Bani Salem during Zohar prayers. There he performed the Friday prayers instead of Zohar prayers. This is the first Friday prayer in history. However, officially it started later on.
Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) went to Madinah and before Friday prayers became obligatory, the Ansar Companions of Madinah once sat in discussion. They said, "There is a certain day of the week for the Jews, on which they all come together." The Nazarenes also meet once a week. So, we need to set aside a day in the week when we will all come together to remember Allah and pray. Then they said in the discussion, Saturday is for the Jews and Sunday is for the Christians. Eventually, they adopted Yaomul Aruba Friday and they named it ‘Friday’. (Siratul Mustafa and Darse Tirmizi) Friday of the Qur'an: The importance of Jumu'ah and Jumu'ah prayers that Allah also mentioned in the Qur'an. Irshad said about the performance of Friday prayers, O believers!
When the call to prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and stop trading. That is better for you, if you only knew. And when the prayer ends then disperse in the land and seek Allah's bounty and remember Allah much, that you may be successful. (Surat al-Jumu'ah: verses 9-10). Friday in Hadith: Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that the person who performed ablution properly and came to perform Jumu'ah to listen attentively khutbah between this Jumu'ah and (next) Jumu'ah (Minor) then his sins are forgiven. And whoever touches the gravel (during khutbah), he has done nothing. (That is, he destroyed the Friday thawab.) (Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Musnad Ahmad's Prayer Chapter) Provisions for Friday prayers: Friday prayers have been made obligatory. The two rak'at obligatory prayers of Friday and khutbah of the Imam have been replaced by four rak'at obligatory prayers of Zohar.
A hadith has been narrated from Hazrat Tariq Ibn Shihab. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that it is obligatory for all Muslims, except slaves, women, minors and the sick, to perform Friday prayers in congregation. (Abu Dawood: 1067, Mustadreke Hakim: 1062, As-Sunanul Kabir: 5587) It has been narrated in a hadith from Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) said that a person should not abstain from Jumu'ah prayers without any lawful reason. His name will be recorded as a hypocrite in an office that will not be deleted or changed. (Tafsir Mazhari, B: 9, Page: 283) Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (R.) has narrated a hadith to the effect that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about all those who stay away from Friday prayers (do not read), surely My wish is that I order someone to lead the prayers, let that person lead the prayers. Then We set fire to the houses of those who do not offer the Friday prayers. (Muslim: 652, Musnad Ahmad: 3816,Musnad Ibn Abi Shaybah: 5539, Asu-Sunanul Kubra: 4935)
Prohibited work on Friday: Friday is basically the time after the call to prayer until the end of the prayers There are some obligatory provisions. At this time, some provisions have to be complied with. No work outside the law can be done--such as being busy in business or useless work even after the call to prayer. It is obligatory for the worshipers present to listen to the sermon. Therefore, it is not lawful in the eyes of Shari'ah to engage in vain activities during the sermon.
Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) said, Hazrat Rasulullah (SAW) said, if you tell your companion to be silent while delivering the sermon on Friday, then you have said nonsense. (Sahih Bukhari: 1/128) It is strongly proved by the narrated hadith that it is obligatory to listen to sermon in silence and during the sermon it is haraam to speak. It is also not permissible to offer sunnat-nafl prayers during similar sermons. It is narrated in another hadith that when the Imam goes out for the sermon, he will not pray or speak. (Meshkat: 3/432)
Fatawa al-Shami, a reliable book on jurisprudence, states a principle that actions which are haram in the prayers are also haram during the khutbah. Such as: talking, eating and drinking etc. (Fatawa Shami: 3/35) Special period: Friday has unlimited virtues. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has mentioned these virtues in various hadiths. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said in a hadeeth in Bukhari: If not, then the prayer is performed as much as possible and the Imam is silent when he speaks, then his (sin) is forgiven until the next Jumu'ah.
On the basis of that hadith, the jurists have specified these acts. For example, taking a bath on Friday. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made it obligatory for those on whom Jumu'ah is obligatory to take a bath on this day. However, according to the school of Ahnaf sunnat, it is a good thing to cut nails and hair on that day as part of cleaning. Use perfume for Friday prayers Bukhari) Miswak. (Ibn Majah). Use oil on the skin. (Bukhari). Realising Jumu'ah by wearing good clothes. (Ibn Majah) The worshipers sit facing the Imam. (Tirmidhi) Going to the mosque on foot. (Abu Dawood). Jumma day also Jumma night more and more durud lessons. (Abu Dawood: 1047). Pray more and more on this day. (Bukhari). Do not go to the front of the mosque through the gap of the worshipers. (Bukhari). Reading Kahaf on Fridays. For the reader, Allah Ta'ala illuminates the time between the two Fridays.
Time to accept prayers on Friday: The most notable aspect of the virtues of Friday is that there is a time on the day when a believer makes a prayer and Allah accepts his prayer. A hadith has been narrated from Abu Hurairah. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: There is a time on Friday when a believer prays to Allah for something good, and Allah will give it to him. (Sahih Muslim: 852, Musnad Ahmad: 7151, As-Sunanul Kubra: 10234) What is the most precious time for prayers to be accepted on Friday? There are 45 opinions about this. However, the most famous view is that it is the time of accepting prayers from Asr prayers to Maghrib. A hadith has been narrated from Hazrat Anas (RA). He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The desired time is after Asr to before sunset. (Musnad Ibn Abi Shaybah: 5460, Tirmidhi: 489) Special Darud Sharif period on Friday: Anas Ra. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You should recite more and more Darood Sharif on Friday. Because Gabriel (peace be upon him) had just appeared with the word of Allah. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): When a Muslim recites Darood on you once in the world, I bestow mercy on him ten times and all my angels ask forgiveness for him ten times. Targib: 3/299 Hazrat Abu Huraira.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It will be light when I pass the Pulsirat. In another tradition, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that a person who recites this darood 80 times on Friday before getting up from his place after the Asr prayers on Friday, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Ala Muhammadinin Nabiyyil Ummiyi wa Ala Alihi wa As Habihi Wasallimu Taslima. His 80 years of sins are forgiven and the reward of 80 years of worship is written in his record.
Finally, may Allah Ta'ala grant us the grace to perform our Jumu'ah deeds properly and after today's Jumu'ah prayers, I will pray to the Almighty for all the persecuted Muslims in the world. May Allah accept the prayers on the third Friday of the holy month of Shawal so that we can all go to the house of Allah and perform it with a healthy body and mind. Amen.
