Lightning strikes kill four in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: At least four people, including two women, died and three others were injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes at Mirsarai, Fatikchhari and Boalkhali upazilas in the district on Sunday.

 The deceased were identified as Sazzad Hossain, 16, of Mirsarai, Md Jahangir, 39, of Boalkhali, Bhanumati Shil, 40, and Lucky Rani Das, 38, of Fatikchhari upazilas in the district. The injured were Maloti Das, 50, and Shobha Rani Dey, 45, of Fatikchhari upazila, and Md Mosharraf Hossain of Mirsarai upazila.

 Sources said the port city witnessed heavy downpour with lightning since the morning.

 Sazzad and Jahangir were killed in separate incidents of lightning while working at farmlands at Mirsarai and Boalkhali upazilas at around 10:00am.

 Besides, Mosharraf, father of Sazzad, was also injured in the lightning strike.

 In another incident, the two women were killed and two others injured in lightening strike while working at a farmland in Chamurhat Bazar area of Fatikchhari upazila at around 8:00am, said Kanchan Nagar Union Parishad (UP) Member Afsar Uddin.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy got electrocuted at Sikkatuli of Bangshal area in the capital early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Ishraq Hossain, 17, son of Shishu Mia of Manikdi village under Bhairab police station in Kishoreganj. He used to run a shoe factory, reports UNB.
