Forty-three more people died of coronavirus infection and 1,447 new cases were detected during the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The figure of the deaths is the highest since May 9.
“Some 43 people died of COVID-19 during the period while the tally of infections surged to 8,09,314 as 1,447 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours,” said Directorate General of Health Services.
With the deaths of 43, the total number of deaths increased to 12,801.
The DGHS said 11.03 percent of the 13,115 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.
The samples were tested at 509 authorized medical laboratories across the country.
The recovery count rose to 7,49,425 after another 1,667 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 92.60 percent recovered, while 1.58 percent died.
