6.98 lakh children to get Vitamin A capsules

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will feed Vitamin A capsules to 6.98 lakh children during the nationwide fortnightly campaign which will begin today and continue until June 19.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam will inaugurate the campaign from Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-10.

A total of 122, 431 children, aged between six and 11 months, will be given the blue coloured capsules, while 576, 427 children those aged between 12 to 59 months will receive the red coloured ones.

As many as 5715 volunteers and health professionals will deliver the capsules from 1905 permanent and makeshift centres in 54 wards under 10 zones of DNCC.

The centre will remain open from 8:00 am to 4 pm.

DNCC Chief Health Officer Zoabaidur Rahman said, “Apart from feeding capsules to the children, the mothers will be advised to feed infant first milk within one hour of birth and feeding infants only breast milk up to six months.”

He also said that mothers would be advised to use vitamin enriched edible oil in the cooking.
