A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed four members of a gang, including its ringleader, which has trafficked a large number of young girls to India, on a five-day remand in a case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order after Hatirjheel thana police produced them before the court seeking a ten-day remand for interrogation.

The four accused are Ashraful Islam alias Ashraful Mondal alias Boss Rafi, the kingpin of the racket, and his three associates -- Sahida Begum alias Madam Sahida, Ismail Sarder and Abdur Rahman Sheikh alias Arman Sheikh.

Opposing the remand plea, defence submitted petition seeking bail for the accused but the court rejected the bail petition after hearing.

Earlier on Monday and Tuesday, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the four members from Jhenaidah and Jashore.

RAB said the gang has link to at least 50 local and international human trafficking rackets. Rafi led the racket while TikTok Hridoy, who was arrested in India and sustained bullet injuries to one of his legs, was one of his close associates.

Hridoy attracted young girls to unruly life through TikTok and other social media sites with a promise to make them models and other professionals.

Later, he enticed them to go to the neighbouring country for making them models and giving jobs in beauty parlours, super shops, shopping malls and other business houses.

A case was filed with Hatirjheel police station against the accused under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012 and The Pornography Control Act, 2012.
