The executive committee meeting of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation, under its outgoing president and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, was held at the city’s BAF Falcon Hall on Wednesday, but no decision was made on the premier hockey league.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier allocated Tk 1 crore for the development of domestic hockey. It was expected that the meeting would fix the usage of Tk 1 crore as well as confirm the new schedule for the league.

“Today we have congratulated our upcoming president and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for supporting hockey. We prayed for late hockey GS Samsul Bari. About the league, we need some more time for confirming the schedule because we are still talking with the clubs. But we have decided to finish the players transfer formalities by July,” BHF acting general secretary Mohammed Yousuf told The Daily Sun after the meeting.

“Our outgoing president will leave office on June 12. Then, I will talk with the new president regarding the league, domestic competitions and other projects. After that, we will talk with the clubs and will fix all problems by July,” he added.

The last edition of the premier league was held in 2018 and it rolled in only six times in the last 12 years.
