Universities to reopen after vaccination of students

The government has decided to reopen regular in-person academic activities of the universities after ensuring vaccine for the students.

A meeting was held with the participation of education ministry, Universities Grants Commission (UGC) and vice-chancellors of all universities on Monday reading the reopening of the universities.

UGC sources said four important decisions were also taken from the virtual meeting held with Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni in the chair.

They took decision that the residential halls of the universities will be reopened while the regular in-person academic activities will be resumed on completion of vaccination of the students. It also decided that as per the instructions of the Prime Minister, all the students of the university will be brought under the vaccination as soon as possible on priority basis while the vaccination programme will begin with the residential students. The universities, however, can take in-person or online exams following guidelines after approval of the academic council of the respective universities amid the pandemic.

As per the decision, every university will prepare a recovery plan considering their own capabilities and realities while they will take step to implement the plan to make up the losses of the students' due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The UGC will also prepare a general guideline of the recovery plan and it will be sent to the universities.
