A mobile phone of Planning Minister MA Mannan was snatched from his possession in Bijoy Sharani area of the capital on Sunday.

The snatching took place in the evening when the minister was browsing on his mobile phone while sitting in his car.

The minister’s car got stuck in Bijoy Sharani traffic signal and its windows remained open.

MA Mannan described the incident while talking to reporters after an ECNEC meeting at the Planning Commission on Tuesday.

“The windows of my car were rolled down. Suddenly, before I even knew what was happening, the mugger snatched it from me and quickly fled the scene.”

“It took me a couple of seconds to realise what was happening because I was absorbed in my browsing. When I understood I told the policeman in the car that my phone was stolen. He tried to catch the snatcher. However, his efforts went in vain.”

A general diary has been filed with Kafrul police station over the incident.

Selimuzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station, said police are working to arrest the snatcher.
