The 13th session, known as the budget session, of the 11th Parliament will begin today amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is scheduled to place the proposed national budget of Tk 6.03 trillion at 3:00 pm tomorrow.

The session will be a brief one due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The proposed budget is to be passed by Parliament on June 30.

All the preparations have already been taken for the session likely to be prorogued on July 3 with brief recesses.

The 2020-2021 fiscal year budget session was the briefest one in the history of Bangladesh due to corona pandemic as the budget was approved within nine days after a brief discussion since it was placed on June 11.

This year also the proposed budget session will advance amid strict health precautions in line with the restrictions being enforced by the government.

On June 2, the first day of the budget session will be adjourned after adopting an obituary reference. Only 110-120 parliament members will participate in the budget session following necessary health guidelines and maintaining social distancing, said the parliament secretariat.

“The ministers, lawmakers, and officials of the parliament secretariat must obtain corona negative certificate to enter the parliament,” it said, adding that those who will have corona negative certificate issued within 72 hours, will be allowed to participate in the parliament session.

Reporters have been requested to cover the parliament reports from the live broadcasting of the Sangad Television.
