Sohel Reza gets WHO’s spl recognition

Prof Sohel Reza Choudhury, head of the Department of Epidemiology and Research of National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute (NHFHRI), has received the regional director’s special recognition for the Southeast Asia region this year.

Every year, on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) honors organisations and individuals working on tobacco control around the world.

The WHO has given special recognition to Sohel Reza for his outstanding contribution to tobacco control in Bangladesh, said a press release of the NHFHRI.

Prof Sohel has been serving as the member secretary of United Forum Against Tobacco (UFAT) and Bangladesh Network for NCD Control and Prevention (BNNCP), which were formed with the initiative of National Professor Brigadier (Retd) Abdul Malik, founder and president of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh. The UFAT and the BNNCP consist of professional organisations of specialist physicians works for tobacco control in Bangladesh.
