3 arrested with looted cigarettes worth Tk 3.2m

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested three members of a robbers’ gang with looted cigarettes and money from different parts of Chattogram and Cumilla districts on Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Nur Nabi, 30, of Hatia upazila in Noakhali district, Md Shahjahan, 60, and his son Md Enayet Ullah Shanto, 26, of Cumilla district headquarters. Mentionable, robbers looted cigarettes worth around Tk 32 lakh from godown of a dealer of Abul Khair Tobacco Company Limited in the city’s Kadamtali area on Thursday last.

On information, police arrested Nabi from Sitakunda upazila in the district and the father and son from Cumilla district headquarters on Monday early hours.

Deputy Commissioner (DC West) Abdul Warish of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) at a press conference at Double-mooring police station said among the arrestees Nabi is the ringleader of inter-district robbers’ gang.

Shahjahan and Shanto are buyers of looted goods of the gang. Police recovered 92 cartons of looted cigarettes worth around Tk 32 lakh and Tk 68,000 earned selling two cartons of the cigarettes from their possessions, said the DC.
