Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student associate body of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), staged a protest on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Saturday, demanding reopening of all educational institutions and drug-free campus.

The protest was held near Raju Memorial Sculpture in the morning.

JCD DU unit convener Md Rakibul Islam Rakib presided over the event while its member secretary Md Amanullah Aman conducted it where more than two hundred leaders and activists from different units were present.

"Due to Covid-19 pandemic, all the campuses of the country remain closed for more than a year. Although the government talked about conducting online classes, there is no specific plan to implement this," said JCD central President Fazlur Rahman Khokon.

He demanded reopening of educational institutions immediately to bring the students back to their normal life. Otherwise they will announce their next course of action, he added.

JCD DU unit convener Rakibul Islam Rakib said, "The educational institutions have remained closed since March 18 in the name of Covid-19, but the economic and other institutions are open. The undemocratic government has prolonged the closure for a political purpose."

Rakib also criticised the government for availability of various drugs on the campuses.
