CHATTOGRAM: Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) will investigate the sensational case filed in connection with the death of banker Abdul Morshed Chowdhury.
The Police Headquarters assigned the specialised wing following an appeal of the victim’s wife and plaintiff of the case--- Ishrat Jahan Chowdhury. The PBI received an official order in this connection on May 27 and assigned Inspector Kamrul Islam as investigation officer of the case, said PBI Chattogram Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana. The case will be investigated following the procedures, she said.
Contacted, plaintiff Ishrat said the investigators of the Detective Branch (DB) couldn’t arrest any of the accused named in the FIR.
“The progress of the investigation was also not satisfactory that prompted us to appeal for assigning the PBI, which has already set examples of investigating clueless cases,” she said.
The plaintiff also hoped that the PBI will investigate the case properly to unearth the truth.
Failing to cope with the immense pressure, banker Morshed has allegedly become the victim of secret businesses of some persons including the Whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury’s son Nazmul Hoque Chowdhury Sharun.
The bank official didn’t get relief even after repaying around Tk 38 crore against the loan of Tk 25 crore, said family sources. He had to choose the path of suicide.
Morshed was the manager of Bank Al Falah's Agrabad branch and committed suicide at his residence in the city’s Hill View Residential area on April 7 this year.
He became the victim even after paying a huge amount including principal and interest against the borrowed amount. He didn’t take back the security cheque given in good faith.
The gang repeatedly demanded profit against those cheques.
The accused continued attacking at the victim’s residence, filing lawsuits, kidnapping and other threats for the money.
There were also political and administrative pressures. The banker, who was unable to bear those, committed suicide seeking relief.
His wife Ishrat filed a case accusing four people in connection with the forced suicide with the Panchlaish police station.
The accused are: Morshed’s cousins Jabed Iqbal and his brother Parvez Iqbal, Naeem Uddin Shakib and Juba League Central Organising Secretary Shahidul Haque Chowdhury Russell. Allegations of provocation for torture and suicide were brought against the accused in the case.
Sources said Whip’s son Sharun invested in the secret business with the banker through businessman Parvez Iqbal.
Ishrat said though Sharun had no direct transaction with Morshed, he (Sharun) used to create pressures in different ways.
He phoned Morshed to meet at a hotel on May 29 in 2019.
“As my husband refused to meet saying that he has no deal with him (Sharun), the whip’s son then said that the deal will take place,” she said.
As Morshed didn’t meet, Sharun along with his gang went to the residence in two vehicles on that day.
Parvez went upstairs with his gang and knocked the door of the house repeatedly. They kicked the door and said they would bring Morshed keeping his wife confined.
Sharun and former BCL Leader Arshadul Islam Bachchu remained seated inside a number-plate-less vehicle beneath the building at that time. Sharun also attended the meeting held at the residence of Morshed’s relative Azam on that night.
The plaintiff earlier also alleged that police are not arresting the main accused of the case for political influence.
