ICL MD, his wife arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the managing director of much-talked-about Ideal Cooperative Society Limited (ICL) and his wife from Banglamotor area in the capital on Thursday.

A team of the elite force arrested HNM Safikur Rahman, 59, and his wife Kazi Shamsul Nahar Mina, 54, says a press release on Friday.

Md Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, operations officer of the RAB-4, told the Daily Sun that they were fugitive in 22 cases. Warrants of arrest were issued against them in all the cases.

The arrestees used to change living places and mobile phone numbers after every two to three months to evade arrest.

The officer said that on information that the couple was staying at a house in Banglamotor area, the elite force conducted a raid and arrested them at around 12:15am. During primarily investigation, the RAB came to know that Safikur Rahman opened ICL in 2002. He was the MD of the ICL while his family members were on its important posts.

They swindled out several thousand crore of money from thousands of people. 

With the money, they began a real estate company named ICL Real Estate by which they also cheated huge people.     

Several victims filed the cases against them with various police stations. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigated the graft allegations against them.

A total of 22 cases were filed against Safikur and his wife with Paltan and Khilkhet Police Stations in Dhaka and Chauddagram Police Station in Cumilla.

During primarily interrogation, the couple confessed that they cheated huge people through the Ideal Cooperative Society Limited (ICL) and ICL Real Estate.
