A long tailback of over 400 vehicles has been created at Paturia ferry ghat in Manikganj on Friday morning causing untold suffering of the passengers.

Police and witnesses said, passenger buses, private cars, microbuses and goods-carrying trucks have been waiting at the ferry ghat since Friday morning to cross the river Padma.

The pressure of vehicles has increased at Paturia-Daulatdea ferry ghat after ferry movement at Shimulia-Banglabazar river channel was halted.

Ferry services have been suspended in Shimilia-Banglabazar ferry ghat since Wednesday morning due to the bad weather. Later, the movement of other vessels has been stopped since the afternoon of the very day.

Assistant Director of the Department of Maritime Safety and Traffic Management and Assistant Port and Transport Officer Shahadat Hossain said disruption in ferry service on the route caused a long tailback on both sides of the river.

Mawa Traffic Police Inspector Hafizul Islam said that more than 500 vehicles were waiting at Shimulia ghat on Friday. Among the stranded vehicles, there are mostly buses, trucks and private cars.
