Slum dwellers and low-income people living in Ward No 2 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) got an instant benefit of a face-to-face meeting with Councillor Md Sajjad Hosen.

They got rid of the various civic problems like mosquito menace, impure water and dirty drains due to the meeting.

Sajjad Hosen heard the problems faced by slum dwellers and low-income people of the ward during a meeting under ‘help desk’ initiative at Pallabi Community Center on Friday.

Listening to the city dwellers, he quickly sprayed mosquito repellent in the area, cleaned the drains and provided drinking water.

The councilor said, “I have been able to discuss the problems directly with the very poor people as a result of the introduction of the help desk system. I am also trying to solve other problems as much as possible.”

“They have a lot of problems but could never tell anyone. Today they told me directly,” he said.

Mirpur Section 12, Mirpur- 12/P and North Kalshi are under the ward.

Two non-government organisations — Solidarity International (SI) and Resource Integration Center (RIC) — are jointly implementing the project in eight wards under the two city corporations with the financial and technical support from Slum Based Citizen Action Network (SCAN) of the European Union (EU).

In this way, the people of the area are benefiting from being able to talk directly to the public representative about their problems.
