Vegetable prices up in city markets

Prices of most of the vegetables have increased in the kitchen markets in the capital on Friday, causing the low-income people to lose their purchasing capacity.

Though the supply of summer vegetables has increased in the kitchen markets, prices of the produces have increased.

People have started feeling the pinch of price hike since last year soon after Covid-19 crisis started. They had to reduce the consumption of food due to excessive price hike.

Traders said demand of vegetables has increased against scanty supply in the markets.

While visiting Mohammadpur Krishi market, it was seen that price of broiler poultry was sold at Tk140 per kg, which was same in the previous week.

Sonali chicken was sold at Tk 210-230 per kg while it was Tk 230-240 a week earlier and Tk 310-320 during Eid.

Price of layer chicken was Tk 230-240 per kg, which was same in the previous week. It was Tk 200 per kg before Eid. 

Cauliflower was sold at Tk 40-50 per piece like it was sold in the previous week, brinjal was selling at Tk 40-60 per kg like it was sold in the previous week. Cucumber price was Tk 30-40 per kg.

Pointed guard was selling at Tk 30-40 per kg while it was Tk 40-50 a week earlier, Yardlong bean was selling at Tk 40-50 per kg same as the previous week, okra was at Tk 30-40 per kg same as the previous week, cucumber was sold at TK 40-50 per kg while it was Tk 25-35 a week earlier,  pointer guard was sold at 40-50 per kg while it was Tk 30-40 a week earlier, okra was sold at Tk 40-50per kg while it was Tk 40 a week earlier.

Yardlong bean was sold at Tk 60-70 per kg while it was Tk 50 a week earlier, green banana was sold at Tk 30 per four pieces while it was Tk 40 a week earlier,  Carrot was sold at Tk 80-100 per kg while it was Tk 50-60 a week earlier, tomato was sold at Tk 40-50 per kg while it was Tk 40-50 a week earlier, guard was sold at Tk 60-70 per piece, green papaya was at Tk 50-60 per kg while it was Tk 60-70 a week earlier, arum was sold at Tk 50-60 per kg same as the previous week and bitter guard was sold at Tk 70 per kg.
