31 more die, 1,358 cases detected

The numbers of daily coronavirus infection cases and deaths have risen as 1,358 new infection cases and 31 deaths were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 12,511 in the country with 31 new deaths. The total death rate has stood at 1.57 percent. Some 1,358 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the total number to 7,96,343. The daily infection rate has declined to 9.30 percent in the last 24 hours.

Some 1,064 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 7,36,221 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood at 92.45 percent.

The DGHS said 13.49 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 9.30 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 14,606 samples, out of 15,388 collected, were tested at 497 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 59,01,874 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.

Earlier, Bangladesh on Wednesday recorded lowest number of deaths in 68 days as the country saw the deaths of 17 Covid-19 patients in 24 hours while the number of infection was 1,497 during the same period.

Both infections and deaths from coronavirus started to decline from the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.

However, infections and deaths started rising further from March 10. Highest 7,626 cases were reported on April 7 and record 112 deaths were registered on April 19.

Following a fresh surge in both infections and deaths from the deadly pathogen, the government enforced a lockdown which has been extended until May 30 further.
