Int’l Day of UN Peacekeepers tomorrow

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers will be observed tomorrow in Bangladesh along with other countries across the world.

The day is being observed on May 29 every year across the world aiming to underscore the importance of maintaining global peace, pay tribute to those involved in the peacekeeping missions and honour the UN peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in establishing global peace.

Different programmes have been planned to observe the day, said an Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) release.

On the morning, the programme of   the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers will begin with the remembrance of the peacekeepers.

A reception for the relatives of martyred and injured Bangladeshi peacekeepers and a special presentation on the UN peacekeeping operations will be organised at 11:00am in Senakunja.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the programme through video teleconferencing (VTC).

Bangladesh Television and BTV World will broadcast the reception programme live.

Also, in the morning Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will be present as the chief guest at the ‘Peacekeepers Run-2021’.

In observance of the day, different mainstream national dailies will publish special supplements and journals highlighting the importance of the day.

Besides, different private television channels including Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will air special talk-shows and documentaries on Bangladesh’s peacekeeping activities.
