Though the Cyclonic storm Yaas has not hit Bangladesh, it has left its influence all over the country’s coastal regions.
Due to its influence, people living in as many as 27 upazilas (sub-districts) of nine coastal districts have been badly affected by high tidal surges.State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman disclosed it while addressing a press briefing on the overall cyclone situation at the secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon. He said 27 upazilas in Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Noakhali and Lakshmipur districts have been affected by high tidal waves or tidal surges.
The affected upazilas are Shyamnagar, Asashuni, Koyra, Dakope, Paikgacha, Sarankhola, Mongla, Morrelganj, Mathbaria, Barguna Sadar, Patharghata, Amtali, Patuakhali Sadar, Golachipa, Rangabali, Dashmina, Mirzaganj, Kalapara, Charfassion, Manpura, Tajumuddin, Doulatkhan, Borhanuddin, Bhola Sadar, Hatiya, Ramgati and Kamal Nagar. The State Minister said adequate food items and funds have been allocated in favour of the deputy commissioners to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected people.
Besides, he said 16,500 dried food packets and other food packets have been allocated in favour of the DCs concerned for distributing among the affected people in 27 upazilas under nine districts.
