Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) on Wednesday demanded revocation of the decision of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority to hike the water tariff by five percent.

In a joint statement, NAP Chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and its Secretary General M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan made the demand.

Terming the hike in the tariff as illogical decision, they said it’s against the public interest.

“WASA has failed to provide city residents with safe drinking water and for that their decision to hike the price is totally immoral, unethical and anti-people. They did the same many times in the past,” they said.

They also said, “WASA supplies impure water in the pipelines while they are selling pure dirking water in many places issuing cards.   Those who are paying for the pipeline water have to buy drinking water from the same organisation. It is unjust and immoral.”
