A Dhaka Court on Wednesday placed Abdur Rahman, an imam of a local mosque, and victim’s wife Asma Aktar on a five-day remand in a case filed in connection with the recovery of mutilated and decomposed body of a RMG worker from the septic tank of a mosque in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy passed the order after sub-inspector Anjan Kumar Sarker, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a ten-day remand for interrogation.Earlier on Tuesday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered mutilated and decomposed body of RMG worker Azharul Islam Azhar, 30, who had been missing for several days, from the septic tank of Dakshinkhan Sardar Para Mosque.
RAB also arrested the mosque’s imam Abdur Rahman and victim wife Asma Aktar in connection with the brutal murder.
RAB officials said Abdur Rahman has been the imam of the mosque for about 33 years and knew the victim’s family well.
On May 19, an altercation took place between the imam and the victim over extra-marital affairs of the imam with Azharul’s wife Asma.
At one stage, Abdur Rahman stabbed Azhar with a knife, leaving him dead.
Later, the imam mutilated the body and dumped it in the tank of the mosque to cover up the murder.
