Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday reiterated his call for all to abide by the health guidelines to curb Covid-19 infections.

“People are still ignoring the health guidelines, including wearing facemasks, but now it is important for everyone to be aware of it,” he said.

Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, made the call while addressing a virtual press briefing from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.

The minister reiterated the call as the coronavirus infections and death rates are increasing while deadly ‘black fungus’ has been found in the country.

Quader said the increase in corona infections and death rates and the advent of black fungus in the country are causing panic and anxiety among the people.

“It is not possible to stop the increasing trend of infections and deaths if the negligence in going by the hygiene rules and wearing facemask continues,” he said adding that all have to abide by the health guidelines.

Replying to a suggestion of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for taking people of coastal belt to safe shelter due to the ongoing cyclone, Quader said the government has already taken necessary preparation for ‘Yaas’ further ahead of Fakhrul’s statement.

“It is Awami League’s tradition to stand by the people during the crisis period, but the BNP has been involved in giving lip service only,” he said.

Marking the Buddha Purnima, Quader extended greetings to all Buddhists. The minister also hoped that the country will move to the golden destination of possibilities under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

Hoping that the victory will continue, Quader also congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team for winning the series against Sri Lanka.
