The imam of a mosque has reportedly cut the body of a garment worker into six pieces after killing him at Dakkhinkhan in the capital for the victim’s alleged extramarital affair with his wife.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion-1 (RAB-1) recovered the decomposed body parts of Azharul Islam, 30, from the septic tank of the mosque on Tuesday morning, six days after he was killed on May 19.The elite force also arrested the killer, Abdur Rahman, 54, from Madrasatur Rahman Al Arabia of the area.
The body parts were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Col Abdul Muttakim, commanding officer of RAB-1, at a press briefing at RAB’s Kawran Bazar Media Centre said they located the body inside the septic tank around 9:30pm on Monday, but recovered the body parts around 9:30am on Tuesday.
He said Azhar, hailing from Tangail, used to live with his wife and a child at a house in Dakkhinkhan.
He went missing on May 19 after he returned to the capital from Tangail keeping his wife and son at their village home.
Muttakim said Azhar and his son Arabian, 4, used to learn holy Quran from Rahman. Gradually, Azhar and Rahman developed a good relation and the youth used to visit the imam’s house. On May 19, Azhar and the imam locked into an argument over a matter which the RAB official did not disclose. At one stage, the imam stabbed the garment worker in the throat with a knife in the mosque, leaving him dead.Later, he cut the body into six pieces and dumped those into the septic tank, he added.
Meanwhile, Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner (Uttara Crime Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said Azhar developed an extramarital affair with the imam’s wife.
He said Rahman devised a plan to kill the youth after he came to know about the matter.
On May 19, he made Azhar unconscious feeding him with food laced with sedatives and killed him.
