Another criminal accused of murdering businessman Shahin Uddin at Pallabi in the capital was killed in gunfight in the city on Sunday.
The deceased was Md Monir, the sixth accused in the case filed over the murder.Earlier on May 16, Shahin Uddin was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of his son following a dispute over a land.
Aklima Begum, mother of the victim, filed the case with Pallabi police station on 17 May.
The gunfight took place in Pallabi’s Sagufta Housing area on early Sunday, just two days after Md Manik, the fifth accused in the case, was killed in a gunfight with the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP (Media), said, “On information, a team of DB police conducted a drive near the Eidgah area at Pallabi at around 8:50pm and arrested Monir.”
Later, police carried out a drive following information given by Monir to recover arms in Sagufta Housing area at around 2:15am. A gunfight was triggered there as miscreants started firing at police that left Monir and two police members injured.
Monir was rushed to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the physicians.Police recovered a pistol, two magazines and one bullet from the spot.
A case was filed with Pallabi police station in this regard.
Law enforcers said Monir and Manik were seen in CCTV footage hacking 33-year-old businessman Shahin Uddin in broad daylight at Pallabi in front of his son.
Earlier on May 20, three persons, including a former MP, were arrested in connection with the murder, police said.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided a number of places in the capital and Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district and nabbed the trio in the early hours of the day.
The fifth accused Manik was killed in another ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on Friday last.
