Twenty-eight more people died of coronavirus infections and 1,354 new cases were detected in the country during the last 24 hours till Sunday.
According to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 12,376 with 28 new deaths. The total death rate rises to 1.57 percent.Some 1,354 infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising the total number to 7,89,080. The daily infection rate has stood at 8.90 percent in the last 24 hours.
Some 899 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 7,30,697 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has stood 92.60 percent. The DGHS said 13.56 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 8.90 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 15,205 samples, out of 15,182 collected, were tested at 486 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 58,20,612 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
Both infections and deaths from coronavirus started to decline from the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
However, the numbers started rising further from March 10. Highest 7,626 cases were reported in April 7 and 112 deaths were registered on April 19.Following a fresh surge in both infections and deaths from the deadly pathogen, the government enforced a lockdown which has been extended until May 30 further.
