A probe committee formed by the education ministry has recommended cancellation of the controversial appointment of 138 people by Rajshahi University (RU) immediate-past Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan on his last working day, terming the recruitment as completely illegal.

The committee has also sought legal action against the involved person, including Prof Sobhan, saying that they have committed punishable offices, violating law through the illegal recruitment.

A travel ban has also been sought against the VC as he has citizenship of another country.

The probe body, led by University Grants Commission (UGC) member Prof Muhammad Alamgir, on Sunday submitted the report to Education Ministry’s Secondary and Higher education division Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain for taking the next course of action.
