Special budget allocation for Sundarbans sought

Speakers at a dissuasion demanded special allocation in the upcoming budget for the development of Sundarbans coastal area which is at risk of disasters.

Citing the reason for the special allocation, they said disasters are hitting the coastal areas of the country one after another due to the adverse effects of climate change.  

The speakers also said the people affected by Cyclone Amphan could not return to normal life until now while the risks of the people at the area are increasing day by day due to various reasons, said a press release

They made the demand at a civic dialogue organised by non-governmental development organisations Leaders, Sachetan Sangstha and Parliamentnews on Thursday, marking the anniversary of devastating cyclone Amphan.

Nikhil Chandra Bhadra, coordinator of the Sundarbans and Coastal Protection Movement, conducted the event while lawmaker Mustafa Lutfullah, Khulna Paikgachha Upazila Chairman Anwar Iqbal Montu, CPB Central Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Environment Movement Mihir Biswas, and Representative of KNH Germany Matilda Tina Baidya also took part in the dialogue among others.
