At least three people were killed and four others injured in two separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria and Rajshahi on Friday.

In Brahmanbaria, two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a pickup van on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Budhanti union of Bijoynagar upazila in the early hours.

The deceased are the pickup van driver whose identity could not be known immediately, his assistant Roni Khondokar, 17, son of Ripon Khondokar of Shaistaganj in Habiganj. The accident occurred when the Sylhet-bound microbus hit the pick-up coming from the opposite direction, said Md Shah Jalal Alam, officer-in-charge of Sarail Khantihata Highway Police.

The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the Highway Police Station, the OC added. Md Shahjalal Alam, officer-in-charge of Highway Police, had said that three others also sustained injuries in the accident

In another incident, a truck driver’s assistant was killed and the driver injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a roadside tree in Rajshahi in the early morning.

Quoting locals, Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Damkura Police Station, said the accident occurred in Kasba area on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj Highway under Paba upazila at around 5:45am.

The deceased was identified as Iman Ali, 35. The wounded driver Faisal Hossain was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The OC said the paddy-laden truck heading to Chapainawabganj veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering killing his assistant on the spot. Informed, police and firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued the driver who was trapped inside the truck.
