Hosts Sri Lanka Cricket said on Wednesday that they have decided not to go ahead with Asia Cup 2021 for the time being due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.
Arjuna de Silva, the chief of the SLC managing committee, confirmed the development to The Daily Sun.“Yes, Asia Cup is called off,” said Arjuna.
Asia Cup T20 tournament was scheduled to take place in June this year but with the Covid-19 cases increasing in the Island nation, the competition was finally postponed.
The Sri Lankan government also announced a 10-day ban on airline passengers coming into the country on Wednesday. Asia Cup 2020, which was scheduled to be held in September last year, had also been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
